You clear the top box, the grey ? box finally shows its color, and suddenly the whole level changes. That is the trick behind Mystery Box in Marble Sort. It hides the color of a bottom box until the box above it is gone, which means you are forced to play with missing information.
Not ideal. Also very dangerous.
A normal bottom box tells you what it needs right away. If the box is orange, you drop orange marbles. If it is blue, you drop blue marbles. Simple. A Mystery Box blocks that certainty. You see the grey box with a ?, but you do not know whether it needs red, green, pink, cyan, yellow, or another color until later.
That is why this feature can wreck a clean run. You may have matching marbles ready at the top, but no visible bottom box for them yet. Or worse, you may drop the wrong colors onto the conveyor while waiting for the Mystery Box to reveal, then run out of space before you can recover.
Mystery Box is the grey ? box at the bottom of the level. It works as a blocker because it hides the real color of a bottom collection box.
In Marble Sort, marbles fall from the upper boxes, travel through the middle area, then land on the moving conveyor before being sorted into the matching boxes at the bottom. The bottom boxes are the targets. They decide which marble colors you can safely clear.
A Mystery Box hides one of those targets.
The key rule is:
A Mystery Box reveals its color only after the box directly above it is cleared.
That means the box stacked on top is the lock. Clear that upper box first, and the Mystery Box below will show what color it really is.
Find the grey ? box at the bottom Any grey box with a ? in the lower box area is a Mystery Box.
Check the box sitting above it The Mystery Box stays hidden while another box is stacked on top of it.
Fill the visible top box Drop the correct marble color into the visible box above the Mystery Box.
Clear that top box Once the top box is full, it disappears.
Reveal the Mystery Box color After the upper box is gone, the Mystery Box changes from grey ? into its real color.
React fast Now you know what color it needs. Start sending matching marbles before the conveyor gets too crowded.
That final step is where hard levels get nasty. The reveal often happens when the belt is already busy, so you need to spot the new color and act immediately.
Mystery Box and Hidden Box look similar because both use the grey ? style, but they affect different parts of the level.
The difference matters. A Hidden Box tells you, “You do not know what marble source is here yet.” A Mystery Box tells you, “You do not know where some marbles are supposed to go yet.”
That second problem is usually worse.
When a target is hidden, every drop becomes riskier. You may drop a color that has no open box. You may hold back a color that is actually needed soon. You may also waste space on the conveyor because you are waiting for the hidden bottom box to reveal.
The Mystery Box feature adds pressure because it removes information from the bottom area. You are not just sorting colors anymore. You are also managing uncertainty.
Hard levels often place several Mystery Boxes at the bottom at the same time. That creates a chain reaction:
This is where many players panic and start dropping random marbles. Bad idea. Random drops create belt clutter, and belt clutter kills levels.
The better play is to clear known boxes first. Known targets are safe. Unknown targets are traps until revealed.
Clear visible boxes first Visible boxes give guaranteed progress. If you can complete a known pink, blue, green, or orange box, do it before guessing around a Mystery Box.
Open one Mystery Box early Do not spread your effort across every stack. Pick one stack above a Mystery Box and clear it. One revealed color gives you more control.
Stop dropping colors with no target If there is no visible box for a color, do not flood the conveyor with it. One or two stray marbles might be fine. A full belt of useless marbles is not.
Watch the top boxes before tapping Before you drop, check which colors are available and which bottom boxes can accept them. The best move is not always the fastest tap.
Save flexible colors If a color appears in multiple upper boxes, it may be useful after a Mystery Box reveal. Do not burn it too early unless it clears a visible box.
Use boosters only when the belt is in real danger The Magnet Booster is strong after a Mystery Box reveals, especially when the matching color is already scattered on the conveyor. The Shuffle Booster is better when the bottom queue is bad and you need a new setup. The Cannon Booster is your emergency button when the belt is almost full.
When a level has three or four Mystery Boxes at the bottom, choose the stack with the easiest visible box above it and clear that stack first. Do not try to “balance” every column. Opening one hidden target early is better than having four almost-cleared stacks doing nothing.
Messy trick: if the revealed Mystery Box needs a color that is already rolling around the conveyor, stop tapping for half a second and let those marbles travel into position. Players lose this feature by over-tapping. The fix is ugly but effective. Pause, let the belt breathe, then drop the next matching set.
